Why the Ken is Different
The Ken rises in the Vindhyan plateau and cuts a dramatic course through the reserve, dropping through gorges up to 80 metres deep in places. That riverine corridor is home to the Ken River Gharial Sanctuary (est. 1981) — one of India’s key release sites for the critically endangered gharial — plus mugger crocodiles, smooth-coated otters, and cliff-nesting colonies of vultures, eagles and kingfishers.
A boat safari is the gentlest way to see this side of Panna. No engine roar, no dust — just the current, the calls, and sometimes a tiger drinking on the far bank.
